6 IDEAS FOR SUMMERTIME SELF CARE

Summertime is upon us, spreading its sunny embrace across the vast expanse of our beloved Earth. Oh, and let's not forget our Aussie friends who are heading into winter—cheers to you!

As the school gates swing open, releasing the kids into the wild freedom of vacation, life slows down to a weird pace…but at the same time, it picks up to a fast pace of going to sources of water, the beach, the lake, rivers, vacations, and camps.

It's a season of leisure and adventure, where we eagerly soak up the long-awaited warmth….it can also get a little chaotic too with all of these plans to frolic…hence, this post to remind us to practice some much-needed self-care.

However, amidst the sweltering heat that blankets certain parts of the United States, sometimes the best plan is to seek refuge indoors.

Yet, today, let's delve into the realm of self-care, focusing on essential practices tailored specifically for the summertime. So, join me as we explore six transformative ideas to nourish our minds, bodies, and souls during this glorious season.

6 IDEAS FOR SUMMERTIME SELF CARE

Meditation

#1: Meditate Yes I know I always talk about meditation but the summertime is a specifically good time to meditate if you’re one of those where your lifestyle drastically changes in the summertime due to all of the things that I just mentioned above.

Summertime is also a great time to meditate because you just feel the overall vibe that everything has just relaxed a little bit more because everywhere around us is more on a vacation kind of mode so specifically prioritize meditation in the summertime.

I personally always make it my goal to meditate more in the summertime because I don’t have to rush off to work, the kids don’t have to go to school, and I’m not busy with 1 million things.

Eating in the summertime

#2: Eat according to the seasons: This is a really important part of self-care that we overlook.

Have you taken a look at your diet?

Have you taken a look at your healthy habits and what you’re doing to nourish your body so in turn your mind can be nourished properly?

Pay attention to your diet and make conscious choices to fuel your body during this season. Summer offers an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, making it the perfect time to indulge in nourishing meals.

Consider exploring farmers' markets, growing your own garden, or even starting a small herb collection.

Aligning your diet with the season can have a positive impact on your overall well-being.

Self-care

#3: Self-care tip for summertime is to rest.

  • Have you taken an assessment of your lifestyle?

  • If not, I invite you to slow down and ask yourself some questions during the summer how busy am I?

  • How much have I taken time for myself to practice self-care?

  • How much sleep am I getting?

  • Is there anything different in the summertime that can help me to adjust my schedule so that I can just slow down and rest?

When I’m building my vacation …if I’m going on one for the summer…I ask myself: am I building in rest time or am I just going nonstop and then the fall comes around and I’m gonna go go go some more?

Yes, as a busy working mom I’m always caught up in too much activity and not enough rest so I have to remember that summertime means we can actually take some time to slow down and rest and it’s OK to allow yourself that extra time to take naps to just lay in bed for a few extra hours in the morning even if you need to.

I know to some people that sounds insane to be able to have that kind of time but sometimes our body just needs to recharge and we’re all the better for it.

Remember, it’s self-care which means we have to take care of ourselves. We have to take care of our bodies, because remember our bodies affect our minds. If we want to be able to meditate then we need to make sure we’re practicing some stellar self-care when we can.

Water

#4: ! Water is really soothing for the soul. Have you taken the time to take the kids to the pool? Have you taken the time to go dip your toes in the ocean or the river?

Have you sat there and just stared out on the beach of the ocean? Water is so healing for us. In fact, I read an article a few years ago that called spending time at the ocean the blue effect. That means it really does uplift our minds. It creates this positive energy and us and it helps calm us down and give us peace.

I am so fortunate to live by the Pacific Ocean just 15 minutes away. I can see the ocean from here if you’re up on a High Point, it is so absolutely magical and healing.

Grab our Free Morning Routine below that is absolutely amazing and includes a water tracker! and did I mention it’s free?

But again I am really bad about taking my own advice and taking time for myself, so make sure you are taking that time to get near some water to take some time to reflect and take some time for yourself.

Vacation

#6: Tip number six I keep mentioning vacation.

Have you been on vacation? Are you planning a vacation? I know not everybody has the budget for vacation. I barely do living in expensive an place like Southern California but I also remember the days when I had absolutely no money.

So if you’re on a limited budget, remember the vacation can do you so much good and it doesn’t have to be expensive.

It can be as simple as going camping for one night or going out for a picnic for the day multiple days in a row to somewhere that’s near your house and you don’t need to stay in a hotel. Maybe you’re just saying to yourself that you don’t have the time for a vacation this summer.

However, I highly encourage you to always take advantage of the summertime for vacation because this is such a powerful reset for our minds.

That is the thing that I love most about vacations. It’s always great to go on them and experience new sites and sounds food, places, and people. But my favorite thing about vacation is coming back home to our home and being so grateful and thankful for where we live and our beautiful home- our beautiful cozy small perfect home.

I always find that after every time I go on vacation, I actually meditate better for a few days when I get back because I like to call it the cobwebs are washed away…again, it is that much-needed mental reset.

The worries and anxieties of daily life and the daily grind are lifted away temporarily while you’re on vacation. So not only is it nice to be on that vacation where you’re experiencing new things but you also get the added benefit of coming back and having an awesome reset on your mind.

In conclusion, as the summer season unfolds, it's vital to prioritize self-care.

Meditate to find inner calm amidst the changing rhythms, nourish your body with seasonal foods, and make time for rest and relaxation.

Seek solace near water to experience its calming effects, and explore personal self-care practices that bring you joy.

Remember, self-care is not a luxury but a necessity, allowing you to fully enjoy and thrive during this beautiful season.

Enjoy the beauty and relaxation that summer brings while taking care of yourself.
